ACANE runs a multi purpose community centre with facilities such as drop-in, telephone help line, fax and photocopy, advice and job orientation, training. Community Catering Initiative
We are a social enterprise based in the Thomas Gaughan community centre, we run a community cafe in the centre 5 days a week opening at 8.30-2pm we sell low cost nutritional food to local residents and workers, we provide outside catering to groups and organisations and also to local parties, weddings and funerals etc. We have recently been successful with a 5 year Lottery bid which has enabled us to employ 2 local people into full time posts, this will enable community catering to move forward in starting up more community cafes; and luncheon clubs for the elderly and to look for funding for cooking lessons and to be more interactive with other organisations.

East End Walking Group
A social walking group for people of all ages although mainly OAP's people recovering from heart attacks/strokes/disabled with carers etc. Meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 10am in the East End pool Byker Newcastle upon Tyne. Walks generally take 1-21/2 hours Tuesday walks are usually shorter than Thursday walks. These walks are often interspersed with coach trips to local places of interest and occasionally activity days e.g. a day at the Lightfoot centre

Inner City Project (National Trust project)
The project works with young people aged 12-25 and older people aged 50+ to enable them to access the outdoors and learn how to use it for their benefit. The youth group meets on a Tuesday night (daytime during school holidays) to take part in outdoor activities, the first Tuesday of every month is a planning session at St Martins centre Roman Avenue. The Walker Walkers is a walking group for people aged 50+ walks are once a month pick up on a Friday morning at Byker Metro, the group usually walk 4-6 miles in the countryside. The Pathfinder is another walking group for men aged 50+ only.

Margaret Collins House Residents Group
Margaret Collins House is a sheltered housing scheme offering a variety of activiites to anyone over 50. They have a walking group which goes out weekly, bingo four times a week, regular trips and outings. Sue Bolam, the sheltered housing officer runs a gentle armchair exercise class every Wednesday monring and a monthly quiz evening. Every 2nd Monday is a games night and entertainment evenings are organised. All this and more in a fully accessible building with all facilities.

Open Clasp Theatre Company
The North East's only professional women's touring theatre company producing entertaining and informative productions about issues affecting women and young women and their families and communities in the North East.
